Beginner Butterfly Kit   Great for first-timers or to send as a gift!
Everything you need to watch caterpillars grow, create chrysalises and then emerge as beautiful butterflies, ready for flight, in just 2-3 weeks. Comes with an easy-to-use paper butterfly cottage. Simply fold back the "wings" to create viewing windows!
  • Cup of 3-5 Painted Lady Butterfly Caterpillars (with food and paper layer)
  • Fold-out, disposable butterfly cottage
  • Full color butterfly lifecycle poster
  • Butterfly care information and activities available for download FREE on this website.

Tiny butterfly caterpillars arrive in their own cup, complete with food, paper cover and ventilated plastic lid. Watch the caterpillars eat and grow, grow, grow! Once they have reached full size, caterpillars will migrate to the top of their cup, hang from the paper and form beautiful chrysalises. Gently remove the perforated plastic lid, peel back the paper layer with attached chrysalises and lift away from the cup. Use tape or a piece of wire (an unfolded paper clip or trash bag twist tie work well) to hang paper with chrysalises from the paper butterfly house. One by one, chrysalises will slowly open to reveal a new butterfly emerging! New butterflies will slowly open their wings to dry; red pigment may drip to the floor of the mesh house. Once you see butterflies actively flying around the mesh house, you may feed and keep them up to a week or release immediately. It's warm enough for them outside once daily temperatures reach at least 55 degrees F.

Availability: Can be shipped from March through October.
